In response to a petition submitted by a law firm regarding the persistent and alarming activities of armed hoodlums terrorizing the Nembe Bassambiri Community in Bayelsa State, coupled with similar complaints and intelligence from the region, the Police Strike Force was mobilized for a thorough operation aimed at eliminating the threat posed by these armed criminals.
ACP Muyiwa Adejobi the Force Public Relations offficer said the police operatives sprang into action, conducting raids on the hideouts of the hoodlums situated within and around the Nembe Bassambiri Community on the evening of Saturday, August 12, 2023. The outcome of this operation resulted in the apprehension of eight (8) suspects, including Gift Vanman, Daniel Solomon, Ishmael Teknikio aka Moore, Rufus Itario, Joel Jubilee, Sylvanus Alatari, Sounpre Solomon, and Ayebanate Talbot (POS). The operation yielded the seizure of three AK-47 Rifles, two pump-action guns, one LAR rifle, a jack-knife, a dagger, magazines, 104 rounds of live ammunition of various calibers, two POS machines, ten ATM cards, and a rechargeable bulb.

The Police want to emphasize that this operation was carried out by a unified team of police personnel with the objective of restoring order to the community. The officers acted professionally, impartially, and proactively in their efforts to free the community from the terror instigated by the activities of the armed hoodlums. The Police Force asserts its commitment to upholding the law and maintaining order throughout the country, denouncing the distorted news circulating that the community was attacked by individuals dressed in police uniforms. These falsified reports are the work of troublemakers and they are cautioned against their attempts to destabilize the nation.
It is crucial to convey a warning to all individuals who engage in criminal activities, causing fear among law-abiding citizens and sowing discord across the nation. The Police demand that these individuals cease their actions, as the law enforcement agency will spare no effort in eradicating hooliganism, terrorism, and blatant violations of established laws.
The Nigeria Police Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to address security concerns promptly by acting on intelligence to counter such acts anywhere in the country. Furthermore, the Police promise the safeguarding of the identities of reliable informants and encourage the public to collaborate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and actionable intelligence regarding underworld activities and criminal individuals who promote disorder, commit crimes, and disturb stability.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) reiterates that the operation in Nembe serves as a clear message to other hoodlums who share similar intentions of spreading fear among the populace through their unlawful actions across the country. The IGP warns them to reconsider their actions or understand that the impartial arm of the law will catch up with them sooner than later.
